My work, from my view, should be nothing more than itself. It has no innate purpose. There is almost an obsession with assigning value to something created. It would be wrong to say my paintings are to challenge this obsession, for that too would suggest a self-assigned value to my work.
Instead, my goal is to create a moment of peace in a person’s mind. I want people to gain a comfort from this idea that not everything has purpose or meaning. The need to live passionately is beaten into every grain of our beings. However, I think what is most important is to find joy. Happiness is fleeting and is a choice, but if you can find a way to live bring joy into your life, then the seasons of life might become bearable. If living passionately is the answer, then live passionately, assign meaning to things, give 110% in everything. On the flip side, if being gentle with life leads to joy, shouldn't that also be acceptable? If even one person looks at my work and can find rest in it for a moment, then my goal will have been met.
